This workshop will be hosted at Solar Intentions (1056 N Broadway), a non-alcoholic, lesbian-owned bottle shop and community space! In part one, artist Oriana Audre Koren will guide you through hand building your own ceramic matcha bowl, followed by part two for glazing, and an introduction to Chado (the Japanese tea ceremony), with instruction on the traditional enjoyment of ceremonial-grade matcha, and conversations on building solidarity among communities of color through the thoughtful practice of communal rituals. As Chicago faces ongoing opposition and repression of immigrants and communities of color, OAK’s aim is to create a welcoming environment where participants may find comfort, joy, and grounding through creative expression and shared ritual.
